Covid 19 and the rise of Netflix trailers

It is no surprise that as someone who spends most of their time composing for Hollywood movie trailers that the unprecedented hiatus that the industry is experiencing in 2020 is terrible news.

Whilst a few custom requests for trailers of movies due for release in 2021 have still been coming in, there has been a noticeable lack of music licenses for movies set for cinema release which has been cause for some concern.

However it is not all doom and gloom.

Counteracting this paradigm, there is a new trend. Streaming sites such as Netflix now have a captive audience and are certainly not missing the opportunity to release as much new content as they can and this drive has significantly been reflecting in licenses for music on their trailers.

In two days alone in mid July, Netflix released four new trailers all of which heavily feature my tracks.
